Reusable things (not counting food or bath salts etc) we’ve bought/brought from #Japan that are rare in UK, by usage:

daily:

🟢 #RiceCooker #炊飯器 #suihanki

🟢 Wooden chopsticks including long ones for cooking # #hashi and rice & soup bowls

🟢 Kitchen sink corner metal mesh “compost caddy” basket #三角コーナー #sankakukōnā

At most weekly:

🟠 rectangular omelette frying pan #卵焼き器 #tamagoyakiki

And rarely:

🔴 under-table heater #炬燵 #kotatsu (not needed)
🔴 Japanese layout keyboard

The first #ricecooker experience was excellent.

No brown or burned #rice and consistency was just how I like it.

Holding the rice warm for almost an hour also caused no burning or dryness.

So far very happy with the purchase.

The thing is also near silent while cooking compared to a microwave or stovetop and produces way less steam.

We bought a (used) rice cooker, and it's such a game changer. The texture is PERFECT! My autism is so happy, I'm having rice and tofu for breakfast.

(I strongly encourage not having a thousand different useless kitchen appliances and over-consuming, we pondered this buy for months. We ended up buying this because the texture was really hard to get right for us, and as autistics, the texture is very important)

You guys, look at my new rice cooker isn't it cute?! It is done in a retro style. It makes me happy to look at it. I really wish more companies still made kitchen appliances that are pretty and nice to look at.

Curvy, mint green refrigerators. Crock pots with little flowers or vegetables painted on them. I read somewhere that it changed when companies started marketing kitchen appliances to men. And I'm not at all convinced it's actually what men want, either.
